Spicy poha is a popular Indian breakfast dish made from flattened rice (poha) that’s seasoned with aromatic spices and
flavors. This recipe will guide you through making the best spicy poha that’s both flavorful and satisfying.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups poha (flattened rice)
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green bell pepper (capsicum)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup boiled and diced potatoes
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Fresh cilantro leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the poha under running water for a few seconds, then drain it in a sieve. Allow it to sit for about 10
minutes to absorb water and soften. Fluff it gently with a fork and set it aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan or skillet over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, and let them splutter.
  3. Add finely chopped onions and sauté until they become translucent.
  4. Stir in the chopped green bell pepper, tomatoes, boiled potatoes, and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes
    until the vegetables are tender.
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well to coat the vegetables with the spices.
  6. Now, add the soaked and fluffed poha to the pan. Gently toss everything together to combine, taking care not to
    break the poha.
  7. Continue cooking for a few minutes until everything is heated through and the poha is well coated with the
    spices.
  8. Drizzle lemon juice over the spicy poha and give it a final stir.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves.
  10. Your delicious and spicy poha is ready to be served hot for breakfast or as a snack!

This spicy poha recipe is perfect for those who enjoy a flavorful and hearty breakfast. It’s a popular dish in many
parts of India and can be customized with your favorite spices and vegetables.
